Streamlining movie discovery with data-driven insights and an all-in-one experience
While much of the detailed project work remains under NDA, this project focused on redefining movie discovery through an all-in-one platform, enhancing user acquisition, engagement, and search functionality.
During my ten weeks, I worked on optimizing the platform’s movie discovery experience by addressing key user pain points identified through analytics and user interviews. The platform struggled with a high drop-off rate during onboarding and a cumbersome search experience. The challenge was to reinvent these experiences to improve retention and usability.
Outcome
While the company had rebranded as a social app, user behavior suggested that search and recommendations were the primary draw. I streamlined the mobile onboarding flow based on Mixpanel analytics to reduce friction and increase user acquisition by 43% (9,300 new app installs within 10 weeks). I reworked the website’s search and filtering system, making it more intuitive and compact based on A/B testing. I proposed and helped pivot Gatsby’s recommendation model toward a mood-based system, realigning the UX to emphasize discovery rather than its previously hidden social features. This drove a 38% increase in monthly active users (1,580 to 4,081) and was received positively in user testing.
